| | VHD errors - 'the parameter is incorrect' Hi All, I've just solved a problem that had been affecting my evaluation of Windows 2008 Hyper-V. Basically, any VHD operation (Inspect, Create etc), on certain clustered SAN disks would fail - windows would be fine, and I could copy/create/delete, but attempting to create a vhd, or import from VS 2005 would fail with a cryptic 'The parameter is incorrect error'. The solution is to ensure the LUNS are created with a blocksize of 512bytes - some of mine had been created with a blocksize of 4096 bytes - NTFS & clustering were working fine, but NO VHD operations would succeed. I am talking about the Hardware level LUN definition here, NOT an NTFS format size. Hope this helps another systems admin - MS should really either support 4096 bytes as a blocksize in both NTFS and HYPER-V or at least give a decent error message. Regards, Graham White |

| | Re: VHD errors - 'the parameter is incorrect' Interesting. I routinely create NTFS partitions of 16 kb cluster size for use with VHDs, but don't have a SAN to work with so not seeing your situation. -- Charlie. http://msmvps.com/blogs/xperts64 http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile/charlie.russel <gewhite@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:91f87118-a6df-42db-a955-715ea9843a05@xxxxxx Quote: > Hi All, > > I've just solved a problem that had been affecting my evaluation > of Windows 2008 Hyper-V. > > Basically, any VHD operation (Inspect, Create etc), on certain > clustered SAN disks would fail - windows would be fine, and I could > copy/create/delete, but attempting to create a vhd, or import from VS > 2005 would fail with a cryptic 'The parameter is incorrect error'. > > The solution is to ensure the LUNS are created with a blocksize > of 512bytes - some of mine had been created with a blocksize of 4096 > bytes - NTFS & clustering were working fine, but NO VHD operations > would succeed. > > I am talking about the Hardware level LUN definition here, NOT an > NTFS format size. > > Hope this helps another systems admin - MS should really either > support 4096 bytes as a blocksize in both NTFS and HYPER-V or at least > give a decent error message. > > Regards, > Graham White |
