Error installing Windows Server 2008 as Virtual Server

I have Virtual server 2005 R2 running on Windows server ent 2003 SP2. I'm
trying to install Windows server 2008 using the ISO image attached to VM. I
keep getting this error: "Windows installation has encountered an error and
needs to be restarted."

Anybody knows why is this happeneing?

Thanks,
Gilgamesh

Re: Error installing Windows Server 2008 as Virtual Server

There's an update for Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 that adds support for
Server 2008. You'll need to already have SP1 installed, and then download
and install the update from here:

Re: Error installing Windows Server 2008 as Virtual Server

I installed SP1 first, and then installed SP1 update. Still can't install
Windows Server 2008. I'm getting the same error:

"Windows installation has encountered an error and needs to be restarted."

Re: Error installing Windows Server 2008 as Virtual Server

I'm running out of ideas, and I honestly don't run VS any more. (Hyper-V is
so much better!)

You did reboot the host server after installing the updates, correct?

Check the error logs for the installation to see if they provide more
information.

Re: Error installing Windows Server 2008 as Virtual Server

It turned out that ISO image was damaged. I was able to install this after
downloading a new image.

Thanks,

Re: Error installing Windows Server 2008 as Virtual Server

THAT would do it!

I've become VERY cautious about this of late, having run into a fair number
of issue, both in the DL and in burning. I know routinely CRC my downloads
(thank you, MS for making those values routinely available), and do the same
to the ISO once I burn it. And I gave up trying to burn at 16x or more.

Re: Error installing Windows Server 2008 as Virtual Server

The version of Windows 2008 is 32 or 64 bit?
verifies the iso in installing some server, to rule out problems in the
media.
