How to install Hyper V ?

I've not worked with Hyer V yet. Is the below installation correct ?

a) Install 64 bit Windows 2008 Enterprise Edition ?
b) Install the Hyer V software ?

After installation, does it boot via the hypervisor mode ?

Re: How to install Hyper V ?

Hyper-V is not an extra application like Virtual Server. It is a server
role in Server 2008.

After you install Server 2008 x64 , one of the updates available is the
RTM version of Hyper-V. (KB 950050). Once this is installed you can enable
the Hyper-V role on the server.

Once that role is enabled, the server will be in hypervisor mode when
you boot it.

Re: How to install Hyper V ?

As I said before, make sure that you have installed the Hyper-V update.
That's it.

Re: How to install Hyper V ?

For what is worth, I just went thru this...

1) Install 64-bit Windows 2008 Enterprise Edition

2) Patch it (KB 950050 shows up as an optional update, make sure you take
this plus the 3 or 4 other ones that show up as optional)

3) Check your BIOS to make sure virtualization technology (VT) is enabled in
the BIOS (some manufactures ship their hardware with this off.)

4) Enable the role and reboot
