Hyper-V: Very slow network (latency) on virtual Win XP clients?

Virtual Host: Windows 2008 x64 with Hyper-V RC1, 1x1gb/s NIC, 16 gb ram

Virtual Machine: Windows XP pro SP2 - 2 gb ram

I'm simply testing "ping -t -l 64000 <servername>" from a virtual client and
I get an average of 10 ms. From ordinary workstations (and the virtual host)
I get between 1 and 2 ms. I have also tried with legacy network drivers, but
they are even worse with 25ms.

Isn't it possible to get similar performance from a virtual Windows XP under
Hyper-V as from ordinary workstations?

Is this normal behaviour of all virtualization software or is it a known
Hyper-V "issue"?

Thanks in advance

Peter

Just as a note - during a software development cycle, most performance
optimization isn't done until the RTM build of a release. Have you tried
the full RTM version of Hyper-V to compare your results?

My mistake. I am already using the RTM version (6.0.6001.18016)
So I would still like to know if this normal behaviur of virtual clients.

Has anyone tried my simple ping-test from a virtual client and from the
virtual host?
Do you also encounter 5-10 times as much latency from the virtual client?

/Peter

In my environment we're seeing 1ms-2ms additional latency pinging a
virtual client vs pinging the host.

Also with the large package sizes, like my example with 64000 bytes?

I have only tested "from" my VirtHost and VirtClients.
For some reason can I not ping neither VirtHost nor VirtClients from other
workstations or serves. :-(
