I just bought Retail windows 2008 full product and installed on my server,
On the server Roles,
I don't see it to enable Hyper-V virtalization option
How do I enable Hyper-V?

Hi MC,

First of all, check exactly which version of Server 2008 you actually
bought. It is available "with Hyper-V" and "without Hyper-V". Did you buy
the 32 bit or 64 bit version? What cpu in the machine?

Does your CPU and BIOS support virtualization, and is it enabled in
the BIOS? Also, you must have the x64 version of Windows 2008 with
Hyper-V...there are versions of Windows 2008 that don't include it.

That's the problem, Hyper-V only runs on the 64-bit version.

Re: Can't enable Hyper-V

That is not true statement, 2 weeks ago I downloaded 32bit version of
windows 2008 standard, installed and configured Hyper-V successfully. Then I
bought full retail version with product# below and MS says, it should work.

Re: Can't enable Hyper-V

This retail version came with 2 product key,
key for installing directly on hardware, and key for installing in Virtual
Operating system Environments
Tried both keys, still no luck

Re: Can't enable Hyper-V

Yes, because as Paul asserted, x64 is the only version of Windows Server
2008 that supports the Hyper-V Role.

Re: Can't enable Hyper-V

Paul is absolutely right that Hyper-V is only available on the x64 version
of Windows Server 2008. There are Integration Components available for
32-bit, and you can run the management console on 32-bit. But the hypervisor
itself, and the parent partition, must be x64.

Re: Can't enable Hyper-V

I take my statement back, you folks are correct.
Also, I neeeded to enable Virtualization in BIOS, just installed 64bit
version, now I see it.
(I forgot that I had installed Virtual server 2005 2 weeks ago, not Hyper-V
;-))

Thanks
MC
