SCVMM 2008

Anybody figured out how to install this beast?

I click on Setup on the DVD and the Startup screen appears. I click on
Setup/VMM Server and I see a lot of activity around temporary files, and
then, nothing -- no error message, nothing.

What gives?

Since you don't mention anything about your OS, here's the
requirements:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../cc764289.aspx

Re: SCVMM 2008

If one takes the requirements document literally, SCVMM 2008 won't run on
the server in question because it has an AMD Quad 9850 CPU (Doc says only
Intel).

I meet all the other requirements and Hyper-V is running on the server.

Do you have the "microsoft system center virtual machine manager 2008"
folder on the C: drive?
After that installs, you then need to install the administrator
console.
After you install the Console you'll get an icon on the desktop.

Hmm, I did this last night, but on a VM that had SCVMM2007 on it. I
did the full install with it using the SCVMM2007 prep tools.
I removed VMM2007 and then installed the VMM2008, after installing the
console, it worked.
I'd try using the prep tool for VMM2007 to make sure you've got all
the prereqs and see if that makes any difference.

Re: SCVMM 2008

OK, on one Hyper-V host SCVMM just dies without a single error message. On
another, it installs. Why? I don't know about you guys, but, to me, SCVMM is
a little strange and more than a little flaky. The install process seems
needlessly complicated and when I look at the management console, after
becoming very comfortable with Server Manager, I ask myself, WTF?
