Defragmenting/Compacting VHD drives?

If I defrag a VS2005 guest disk (Win2003 server) and then want to use
the precompactor in order to prepare the disk for real compression,
how is it done?

Like this?
1) Use the built-in defragger in Win2003 inside the guest
2) Attach the Precompact.iso from the VS2005 additions
3) Run the precompact.ece on that ISO CD
4) Shut down the guest
5) Open the VPC2007 Virtual Disk Wizard and use the "Compact"
function?

Seems a bit strange to be forced to use a tool from VPC2007 to do the
compaction step, but I cannot find the function in any of the VS2005
tools exposed in VMRC+ 1.7 (which I use in place of the admin
website).

Will this work safely?

OK, found it in VMRC+ too. It is in the Virtual Disk function, but one
has to go all the way to "Inspect" the disk before the Compact
function is even shown....
