| | VS 2005 - 32bit or 64bit? I have been running 32bit Server 2003 w/Virtual Server 2005 for about a year, we have 6 new Dell R905's w/4-2ghz quad core AMD's & 32gb RAM that just came in, will I gain anything by using 64bit W2k3 vs 32bit if they will all be VM hosts? thanks for any thoughts, suggestions! john |

If not you still need to run the 32-bit version. |

| | Re: VS 2005 - 32bit or 64bit? 64 bits processor need a 64 bits OS and software to take full advantage of the hardware architecture. 64 processors can calculate several tasks twice as fast that working on a 32bit environment, besides other advantages. But the key factor is that the instructions that the processor handles has twice the information that a 32bit instruction. | | Re: VS 2005 - 32bit or 64bit? With that server, you'd have full support for Server 2k8 and Hyper-V. Personally, that would be my choice over VS 2005. But if you're forced on to Server 2k3, then go 64-bit. -- Charlie. http://msmvps.com/blogs/xperts64 http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile/charlie.russel "JohnC" <john.corbin@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:BFD65485-FFC1-4AD2-9BFE-1007EB2FD3AD@xxxxxx Quote: >I have been running 32bit Server 2003 w/Virtual Server 2005 for about a >year, we have 6 new Dell R905's w/4-2ghz quad core AMD's & 32gb RAM that >just came in, will I gain anything by using 64bit W2k3 vs 32bit if they >will all be VM hosts? > > thanks for any thoughts, suggestions! > > john > > |
