New VMBus Network Adapter not installed Properly

Hi,

I have one VM working OK on Hyper-V with everything OK.

I wish to install a second VM and when I do with the network settings set to
include "New Virtual Network" and then install the OS MS 2008 Full Server, I
get a Yellow exclamation icon and no network adapter or VMBus.

Is this a sign that the Host system MS 2008 full server running Hper-v as
parent on DELL 2950 with 2 broadcom NIC's is broken and needs to be
re-installed?

Comments?

Have you installed the integration components in the guest OS? That should
load the VMBus drivers.

I'm not sure on that. In the formation of the first VM I didn't have to do
that it just appeared??

How do I know whether they are installed or not?

Re: New VMBus Network Adapter not installed Properly

Hi Bill,

I have found the Integrated Management box with all the host services
available for Offer to Guest systems checked.

It appears that all the Integrated Management features have been installed.

Try re-installing them. If they're not exactly the same version, you'll have
issues. And there have been several versions since Server 2k8 shipped.

Re: New VMBus Network Adapter not installed Properly

Thanks for the suggestion Charlie.

I have re-formatted the disks / partition on which the original VHD files
were located and re-installed from scratch creating new VM with new VHD
(fixed) for the guest OS and it still comes up with the VM network adapter
no go??

It looks to me like something has been corrupted with the VM hyper-V files
on the host and will need to be re-install. They are all the same version
although I did try and import an old 2005 Virtual hard disk into this
hyper-V and that's when all the problems started with the VMBus.

If I shut down the working VM running SBS 2008 with its vhd on another
partition are there any gotchas in re-installing the host system and getting
back to its current level of updates and installed version of hyper-V, with
simply creating a new VM and connecting to the existing VM (SBS 2008)?

TIA

Re: New VMBus Network Adapter not installed Properly

From the Hyper-V Manager, select the VM and click Connect to connect to the
VM. Log on to the VM. Now, from the Action menu of the Virtual Machine
Connection, select Insert Integration Services Disk. The Integration
Services installation should autostart. If it warns you that an existing
version exists, tell it to go ahead and install this version.

By doing the above, you ensure that the VM has the same version of ICs as
the host. This is critical if the VMBus network adapter is to work.
