Hyper-V API compatability with Virtual Server 2005

Hi -

I'm using Virtual Server 2005 for, among other things, virtual test client
automation. I have a respectable sized vbscript that I use to reset virtual
machines by name and ping them until they come back up for using during
automated acceptance testing.

We're purchasing a Windows Server 2008 box with Hyper-V, but it just
occurred to me that my VBScript utility might not work with hyper-v's api. Do
you have any insight into backward compatibility between the two?

Thanks much,
Sean

There is none. As you know that Virtual Server programming model is COM
based, the Hyper-V model is WMI based.

Re: Hyper-V API compatability with Virtual Server 2005

Thanks, Paul. Do you know if Virtual Server 2005 can live on the Windows
Server 2008 box? This might be temporary transitionary option for me until I
can port the automation to wmi.

thanks,
Sean

Yup, works fine, not sure about support though.

If you're running Hyper-V at the same time, you'll have pretty bad
performance in the Virtual Server VM's, but it does work. I don't
think it's a supported scenario though.
