Windows 2000 Server poor performance under Hyper-V

I have migrated a Windows 2000 Server (running SQL Server 2000) onto my
Hyper-V system. This 2k child is dog slow.

Anybody have any tips?

Have you installed the integration components? W2K must be already at
SP4 before you install them too...

I have. The machine had SP 4 before I migrated it.

It was on a different virtual server solution before, so I have been
wondering if it has legacy drivers or something.

Did you remove the other virtual machine additions, tools, etc that
were installed BEFORE you moved to Hyper-V and installed the
integration components?
If not, that's likely the problem. All the VM addins, tools, etc add
hooks into the OS. If you don't remove them they'll cause problems
down the road. You usually need to remove them on the native VM app
before migration to a new VM solution.

Could be, maybe searching for any legacy stuff like that and disabling
it?

Re: Windows 2000 Server poor performance under Hyper-V

Is very possible.

it was running under KVM under linux and I used a trial version of SCVMM to
do an offline p2v migration (I know technically it wasn't a p2v migration,
but the software didn't seem to care)

I have disabled the AV, that has helped a lot. I'll be moving off this VM
shortly.

Thanks for the suggestions
