| | Use of Virtual Server Technology for backups... Hi, I know very little about Virtual Technologies. I'm thinking that it would be a good server backup option. I'd like to have all my servers as Virtual files, so that if I have a major hardware failure, I could simply take a saved snapshot of a virtual server file and move it to different hardware and be back in business. If a snapshot of virtual files were taken every hour or two, that would be acceptable. My research uncovered very little mention or use of virtual technologies in backups and DR planning. Is this technology not a good fit for backups? Are there any backup solution that might fit my needs? Can existing servers be made into VS's without rebuilding them? Thanks much, MP |

| | Re: Use of Virtual Server Technology for backups... I'd probably not approach virtualization as a primary backup or DR strategy. Have you looked at / considered Failover Clustering to potentially address some of your hardware failure concerns? Combining virtualization (Hyper-V) with Failover Clustering gives you significant advantages over each separately. -- Ryan Sokolowski MVP - Clustering MCT, MCITP x3, MCTS x8, MCSE x2, CCNA, CCDA, BCFP "Mrpush" <Mrpush@xxxxxx> wrote in message news 188E65F-A0E1-4EF0-99C9-1C93CC312A03@xxxxxxQuote: > Hi, > > I know very little about Virtual Technologies. > > I'm thinking that it would be a good server backup option. > > I'd like to have all my servers as Virtual files, so that if I have a > major > hardware failure, I could simply take a saved snapshot of a virtual server > file and move it to different hardware and be back in business. > > If a snapshot of virtual files were taken every hour or two, that would be > acceptable. > > My research uncovered very little mention or use of virtual technologies > in > backups and DR planning. > > Is this technology not a good fit for backups? > > Are there any backup solution that might fit my needs? > > Can existing servers be made into VS's without rebuilding them? > > Thanks much, > > MP |
