| | dynamically expanding disk When creating a new virtual machine in VS 2005 R2 it seemed like the only option was to use a dynamically expanding virtual disk rather then a fixed virtual disk. I'm afraid of defrag problems down the road, especially considering the size. Is there a way that I can create a new virtual machine as a fixed hard drive or is there a way to convert it to a fixed? Thanks. |

You can create any type of VHD you want via the Virtual Disk option on the main menu. You can also use the Inspect option to inspect the disk and covert it to a differnet type. To use a fixed disk with a new VM, create it prior in the location you're using for the new VM and use the "use an existing vhd" option instead of creating a dyn-expd disk. -- Cheers, Steve Jain, Virtual Machine MVP http://vpc.essjae.com/ |

| | Re: dynamically expanding disk Thanks. That did the trick. I'm trying to decide between two books: MS Press Virtual Server 2005 or Professional VS 2005 by Ben Armstrong. Any thoughts between those two? There's a lot of info in it, and Ben is one of the top experts in VPC and VS. -- Cheers, Steve Jain, Virtual Machine MVP http://vpc.essjae.com/ |
