| | backup Hyper-V vms What is the best way to backup Hyper-V virtual machines? Should they be backed up the same way we backup physical servers, or do I shut them down and just make a flat file copy of the images... or something else? Also, what do the snapshots do for me? I'm assuming they just let me go back in time which is helpful if a new update or software install breaks something. |

| | Re: backup Hyper-V vms You're on the right track when thinking about your VMs like physical systems...I'd recommend using the Hyper-V VSS writer, provided that your VMs are VSS-aware systems. A note about snapshots - you should never use snapshots for virtualized domain controllers...this can lead to many bad things. :-) Hope this helps, --Ryan -- Ryan Sokolowski MVP - Clustering MCT, MCITP x3, MCTS x8, MCSE x2, CCNA, CCDA, BCFP "Tim" <tjc7546@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:3F66A02F-0C0B-47BD-AC0C-0DD657D8DD26@xxxxxx Quote: > What is the best way to backup Hyper-V virtual machines?
