hyper-v: shutdown within 5 minutes . . .

Hi

I have shut down a virtual machine with the hyper-v manager (red shutdown
button):

shutting down a (virtual) sbs 2008 sometimes takes quite a long time, why
the hyper-v manager showed a messagebox, that shutting down failed within 5
minutes.

Unfortunately I was not in front of the screen at this moment and I don't
know now, what happened exactly, when this messages appeared:

Does the Hyper-V manager still leaves enough time to let the virtual machine
shut down correctly?
Or does the Hyper-V manager just turns off the vm immediately?
