Ip 169

Hi all, it's me again (the vista noob)
I was on my laptop last night using my wireless connection, I turned my laptop off and when I turned it back on, no internet! I did some reading this morning about it and found out I have a "Bad IP" starting with 169, I did a command prompt ipconfig /release but got this "no operation can be performed on bluetooth network connection 3 while it has it's media disconnected. an error occurred while releasing interface wireless network connection: the RPC server is unavailable. no operation can be performed on local area connection while it has its media disconnected" So I plugged in my ethernet cable and nothing (no internet with that ether). I did a system restore and got nothing there. Got into safe mood, nothing. I shut down my Linksys and modem and restarted all my PC's, still nothing, so I reset my Linksys, nothing, still no new IP, still no wireless for my laptop.

I am running Vista 64 bit on a Gateway P-7801u. I have a Linksys WRT54GS V.2
Knowing me I missed something and could really use the help.

Ok so I fixed my problem and I hope this helps anyone who is having the same problem. I did a
System Restore, but this time I went back about a week or so, it's not the best fix but it worked.

And in what way has this anything at all to do with Microsoft Virtual
Server??? VS is the topic of this newsgroup, not networking problems
in general. Probably you need to go to a completely different
newsgroup for this.

You again??? What does that mean? There is no reference in your post
to anyone or any other thread or essentially anything that can explain
why you are here....

Re: Ip 169

A 169.254.x.x address indicates that you are not receiving a valid IP
address from some other (proper) source. I'd start with your wireless
access point for troubleshooting, as most home users are set-up to receive
Dynamic addressing from their wireless APs at home.

If that fails, shut down both your cable / DSL modem and the broadband
router / Wireless AP. Turn on the Cable / DSL side first, wait a minute,
then turn back on the wireless device. I'd also recommend troubleshooting
with another device to pinpoint the actual problem.

You might also want to follow up in the Vista newsgroups. I've cross-posted
this in a likely one to help get you started.

Hope this helps a bit,
--Ryan
