transfer a windows server to Hyper-v

Hello. If a have a standalone server (2003 server), is it possible to backup
the system using windows backup, install a virtual server, and the restore
it using windows backup again?

Thanks

Re: transfer a windows server to Hyper-v

Yes, but as the hardware that the vm sees is different from the physical
hardware it was previously installed on you may have hardware issues. It
would be just like moving to new hardware. You will probably have to do a
repair install and some cleanup removing the old NICs from the registry.

Re: transfer a windows server to Hyper-v

Hello. well, i have restored successfully our exchange server many times to
different hardware for test reasons. Using the same successful procedure to
restore it in Hyper-v fails. All i get after restoring and restart is a
blank screen. No error messages, no safe mode, nothing

I din't know about physical to virtual conversion. Will try it too.

Thanks a lot for the info. Regards, Peter
