| | Hyper-V on Core with R2 Hi Running Hyper-V on CoreEdition of Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise: Which version of Windows must be installed at least on a 32bit remote management machine to have all new features of the R2-Hyper-V edition? Can I work with Vista or Server 2008? Or do I need to go to Windows 7 or Server 2008 R2? Patrick |

| | Re: Hyper-V on Core with R2 Hello Patrick, Sounds like you are using the free, standalone, bare-metal version, Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 (as you said, Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Server Core with the Hyper-V role). According to information that is currently available, you should still be able to remotely manage Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 with at least Windows Vista (SP1), or Windows Server 2008 (32- or 64-bit). I do know that a 64-bit platform is required to run HyperV Server 2008 (RC0, RC1, or R2). I would recommend going to Windows 7 for the remote management if you don't have Windows Server 2008 with SCCM VMM. But that is just a recommendation, not a requirement. I am still trying to get a good installation of a Windows Vista Enterprise VM in Hyper-V (non R2). Everything loads fine except the Virtual Machine Integration Services. Hope this helps. | | RE: Hyper-V on Core with R2 Patrick, You will be able to remotely manage the full feature set of Hyper-V on Windows Server 2008 R2 using Vista SP1 or Windows 7. However, if you want to support the new feature's such as CSV or Live Migration, then you will have to do this from a W2K8 R2 machine since these are new VM Clustering features and will not be made available in the previous release of W2K8.
