cannot access USB devices from Window 2008 VM

Hi,

I installed Windows 2008 Hyper-V Manager and created Windows 2005 VM. But I
could not see any USB devices from VM console even I plug USB drive.

Does someone here help me to fix this issue?

Thanks

Hyper-V does not support USB for VMs. Neither does VMWare ESX, the
comparable server product. There are USB over Network solutions that
might work, otherwise you'd need to go with something like VMWare
Server for USB support.

Re: cannot access USB devices from Window 2008 VM

As Steve points out, there is no support for USB devices inside a Hyper-V
VM. That being said, I've had very good success with a pretty eclectic set
of USB devices (iPods/iPhones to modems to large backup drives to webcams)
with USB over Network from FabulaTech. It's not free, but it does work, IME.
And you can download a single port trial copy to make sure it will work in
your application. www.fabulatech.com.

Re: cannot access USB devices from Window 2008 VM

just curious. can't one use net share the usb drive on the windows 2008 and
HyperV guest VM access as network share?

Yes, if its a USB drive and shared on the host, but you still won't
"see" the USB device in the VM.
This doesn't help with other USB devices.
