| | Virtual server 2005 or Virtual PC 2007 ? Hello, I'm looking to install virtual software on my notebook which is running Windows XP the notebook can handle 8GB of memory, has a core2duo processor, 320 GB disk space with plenty of space left.. I want to install server 2003 as a guest to do some lab work - ideally install server 2003 twice, run together as a domain. What software do you recommend to use --- virtual server 2005 or virtual pc 2007 ? would either work well ? Thanks, Bob |

VS2005 will have a lower overhead since you're not loading the full gui, it runs as a service in the background. If you're going to be doing a lot of interaction between the host and guest VPC might be a better way to go. There's been numerous previous threads with all the pros/cons and links to comparo tables if you want more details. -- Cheers, Steve Jain, Virtual Machine MVP http://vpc.essjae.com/ |

| | Re: Virtual server 2005 or Virtual PC 2007 ? Hello Bob, I use my laptop for demos and to setup courseware. I have a Dell Latitude E6500. I have Windows 7 installed in x64 and this works great with both VPC and VSERVER. There are some workarounds you need to use for VSERVER. You'll find what you need to make that work here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/...c-630c98074436 Personally, if you can get away with VPC, great if you only need limited disks, etc... I may be inclined to put Server 2008 on and limit the roles and features but use Hyper-V for support of 64-bit guests. I have my laptop set to dual boot server 2008 to an external eSATA drive if needed.
