Increase dynamic VHD

Hi friends, I have a dynamic .VHD file with a maximum of 15GB, but now
it's too small for me, can I increase the size (resize) this .vhd?

Or can I create a new diferencial disk linked to the original .vhd and
inside de VM my disk will be as big as summarize both disk (original +
diferencial) ??

thanks

HB

In principle you need to make a new virtual hard disk and then clone
the contents of the old disk over to the new disk. It is basically
exactly what you need to do on a physical PC when the hard disk has no
more space. Same thing.

For the cloning you can use Acronis True Image for example (I just did
this two days ago on a drive in a virtual machine).

For virtual disks there are tools like VHDResizer, but it does not
operate on your original VHD file. It creates a new VHD file of bigger
maximum size, then *copies* all of the data in the old disk to the new
one. The result is a virtual disk with a bigger size but the size is
in the unpartitioned space on the drive and your old data are in a
base partition which is exactly the size of your old drive. So now you
need a partition resizing tool to move on.

Re: Increase dynamic VHD

Hello Bo, herba98,

Alternatively from a Windows 7 system, after the server has been shut down,
you can use attach VHD with both the source and destination VMs and copy
everything you need over.

You cannot make a boot disk by simply *copying* over data....
