VM Connection from client

HI chaps
is it possible to connect to a VM from a seperate client PC over the network
using anything other that remote desktop?
for instance VMWare has a client to connect to a VM that runs from a basic
Linux installation.
would it be possible from a thin client box?

Virtual Server has its own remote access app VMRC that can connect to
a VM.

with Hyper-V you would need to use the Hyper-V Management tool, only
available on Vista, Win7, and W2k8
