Hyper-V R2 cannot create VHDs, manage Logical Disks, view event vieweretc

I'm running a Hyper-V R2 "Core" install. (The free one).

After *FINALLY* getting my Hyper-V manager to connect to the HyperV
server (using HVRemote), I figured my worries were over. However making
a VM it will not allow me to make a VHD to install the software onto. I
also cannot manage my logical disks remotely, or view events remotely.

When this server was part of the Domain(which is strongly advised
against by many) none of these problems existed.

Can someone suggest what I might do? I've already run through the
HVRemote stuff.

Well I take this all back, now my Hyper-V Management console no longer
works. I either get Access denied messages or "Failed to perform..."
messages.
