| | Hyper-V really needed USB support The reason is, you will know when you try to restore an image of your PC backup from the external USB drive onto Hyper-V guest using bare metal scenario. Without direct USB support, you gotta do a whole lot of steps for work around such as share the dive from host on the network and use your restore with network support. Another way is, use another VM with OS preloaded with extra vhd and copy the image onto that drive, then use that vhd with new VM. Either way, we are doing extra job which we do not need to with simple direct USB support. Btw, I do love USB support from VMware workstation and it is really useful in may cases. Here is my question back to you. What is the reason Hyper-V not to support direct USB support? | | Re: Hyper-V really needed USB support however adding USB storage support to Hyper-v does allow simplifications of some vm deployment, mgmt task and test. don't mind if a particular USB device can only be assigned to and used by one vim at a time. I don't expect full USB support for everything, but just USB storage will help tremendously and much appreciated "Steve Jain [MVP]" <noreply.-@-.essjae.com> wrote in message news ko9c59qmbne0qti5c42083ahs4abtj3gi@newsgroupQuote: > On Thu, 01 Oct 2009 03:11:21 -0700, Ted wrote: > Quote: >>The reason is, you will know when you try to restore an image of your PC >>backup from the external USB drive onto Hyper-V guest using bare metal >>scenario. >> >>Without direct USB support, you gotta do a whole lot of steps for work >>around such as share the dive from host on the network and use your >>restore with network support. | | Re: Hyper-V really needed USB support USB storage can be shared on the host and accessed across the network, just as you can share other storage devices.
