Upgrate to Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V

Hi, I have a Windows Server 2003 R2 Virtual Server 2005 Enterprise Edition
R2 SP1 with many Guests. I will upgrate the Box to Windows Server 2008 R2
Hyper-V. Can I simple Upgrate the Operation System ? Will Hyper-V Role run
with Virtal Server 2005 R2 SP1 during transition time ? Thank's

I would not even think of trying that. There are too many things that
could go wrong.

I would definitely install 2008 R2 and Hyper-V on a different box and
test migrating the vms one at a time. Even that has plenty of traps.

What you thing about Installing Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V and then
"import" the vms ? will this works ? Thanks

Re: Upgrate to Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V

Hi,

The path to upgrade your Windows Server+Virtual Server is:
- Uninstall Virtual Server Adittions from all of you virtual machines, and
turn off all of them
- Uninstall Virtual Server from Windows Server
- Upgrade your Windows Server 2003 to 2008
- Install and configure Hyper-V
- Create new Hyper-V virtual machines for each Virtual Server virtual
machine and choose the .vhd file when necessary
- Turn on each hyper-v virtual machine and install the Integration Services

Sometimes the new hyper-v virtual machines ask you for activation. I hope
this information can help you
