Vista - I can only log on on one user account

I don't know when this happened, but my wife tried to log on today and she
gets the welcome screen and then a black screen appears and none of her
settings load. The same thing happens when I try to log on to the admin
account. I have to alt control delete to be able to log on as myself from
this position.

Does anyone know what has caused this and more importantly how i can fix it?

Thanks for your input. No it doesn't work. I already have an Owner ac set as
admin and that doesn't work either. I have tried creating another user
account and copying my wife's settings but that doesn't work either.

i think a prob with the version i hope you have a backup i think i reinstallation is needed.

Hi Steve,

Not sure what caused this problem for you, but you might try a Repair Install to see if it will help you. This will allow you to repair your Vista installation without loosing your files, settings, and programs.

When I start in Safe mode my wife's account works.
I set up another accoun tin safe mode but his too doesn't work in normal mode

So no one can help me then?
I came to the community of experts and I can't find out what has caused this
problem or how it should be fixed.

If I had to reinstall Vista is there any tutorial that guides me through
this process?
