Funny that Microsoft didn't give us all the same good advice when they
were hawking Vista. Why is that? And I did go back to XP. Vista I put on
a secondary PC and use it for paying bills and digital imaging and
nothing else. Between Linux and XP I have no real need for Vista at all.
Nor does anyone else for that matter.

John;
"Funny that Microsoft didn't give us all the same good advice"
It depends on where you look.
That and similar advice has been in these and other newsgroups for
years referring to various operating systems.
Also very similar to 6 years ago at the release of Windows XP.

The Upgrade Advisor probably identifies some or more of your
incompatible programs.
Of course as the name suggests, it is an advisor and no more.
The program manufacturers will also identify their compatible
programs.
What did the Upgrade Advisor tell you before you started?
What did the program manufacturers tell you when you asked?

"I have no real need for Vista at all."
Return Windows Vista, easy within 45 days in North America.
Other regions may have different policies.
I certainly would not keep a product that "I have no real need for".

I didn't pay for it so it is no sweat off my back. It's just a toy to
tinker with. I use Linux for the internet so don't need Vista
baby-sitting me and on Linux I don't need to run ten different security
programs all eating up resources either.

With a game library running in the thousands of dollars why would
Microsoft even think we wouldn't mind giving up compatibility? The
dumbasses should have just built a better XP and given up on their idea
of controlling the masses with an OS that baby-sits every move you make.
They would have made a lot more money doing it that way.

Re: What is wrong with windows vista?

"should have just built a better XP"
Are you under the mistaken belief development on Windows XP has
stopped?
Not at all.
Patches and updates will continue to be developed for at least a few
more years.
The upcoming release of Service Pack 3 is a small part of that.

There is no controlling or babysitting done by Windows Vista although
some of the critics would have you believe it.
Like a lot of what critics say, much is little more than FUD.

Since Windows XP will be supported for at least a few more years,
there is no reason for anyone to upgrade as long as Windows XP does
what it needs to do.

Windows Vista works well on two older computers of mine.
