Can I disable Parental Controls?

I have Windows Vista Ultimate.
Every time I turn on my computer, a little pop up window tells me to set a
password for Parental Controls.
HOWEVER, I do not need Parental Controls - I am the only user of the
computer and I have not activated the Guest Account or created any other user
account.
How can I stop this annoying pop up window from popping up EVERY time I turn
on my computer? Disabling Parental Controls? How do I do it?

Hi Marisa,

Check in Parental Controls to make sure it is turned off. If that does not help, you can disable the "Parental Controls" service. This tutorial will show you how to do both. (See: step 6 and Service at top)

RE: Can I disable Parental Controls?

This did NOT work, Dobos, because I have Vista: when I click the account, a
pop-up windows asks if I want to give the account a password... No other
options to turn Parental Controls off are available there. Thanks, anyway...

Annoying pop-up windows

I have Windows Vista Ultimate.
Every time I turn on my computer, little pop up windows tell me to set a
password as a way to activate Parental Controls.
HOWEVER, I do not need Parental Controls - I am the only user of the
computer and I have not activated the Guest Account or created any other user
account.
And I do not want to give a password to myself…
How can I stop these annoying pop up windows from popping up EVERY time I
turn on my computer?

Marisa,

If you do not want to use Parental Controls, you can Stop and Disable the "Parental Controls" service to get rid of the pop-up.

Re: Annoying pop-up windows

Make sure that none of the Parental Controls are turned on. You may be able
to completely remove the parental controls component through the add/remove
windows components tool.

Re: Annoying pop-up windows

i think if you go into control panel and click on security center then on the left side
click on change the way security center alerts me . then don't notify me and don't display the icon. that may stop it for you

Re: Annoying pop-up windows

marisa, try turning User Account Control off, go to control panel, user
accounts, turn user accounts on or off, choose off. general opinion is
this does not compromise security on your computer, it just means vista
wont nag you every time you run/install a program, which we all do at
our own risk anyway. hope this works for you.
