| | Re: User Account Peter What is the name of the account you are logged on with? Open Control Panel / User Accounts. What are the names of all the accounts there? The computer name is usually set to the name of the first user account created on the system, unless you change the name. This can be changed without effecting the names of the user accounts. -- Ronnie Vernon Microsoft MVP Windows Desktop Experience "peter" <peter@xxxxxx> wrote in message news FE875E6-CC56-4128-AF49-2E4B56C67EC4@xxxxxxQuote: > Hi there, > i have a question. > > when i go to my computer > -> right click properties. > -> the computer name is peter > -> full computer name is peter > > however. > as i enter 'cmd' > it is display as > -> c:\users\adminSch > > and when i went to the user folder. > there is a adminSch folder > but not the peter folder. > > y is that so? > |

These are to completely different names. The "C:\Users\adminSch" is the folder location for your user account name of "adminSch". The computer name "Peter" has no relation to this. Although by default, Vista would have had your computer name as "adminSch-PC" during the Vista installation until you changed it to "peter". No big deal. This will show you how to change the computer name to whatever you want it to be. Computer Name Shawn |

| | Re: User Account And a little more Pete r- You can change your user-name using Controlpanel>Useraccounts, but it will not change the name of your userfolders. And don't try rename them. If you want your username and your folders name to be Peter, this is what to do: Make a new Administrator-account with the name Peter. (If the old one is "Peter" rename it). Log on with "Peter" Copy everything from the old Admin-folders to the new "Peter"-folder in c:\users\ Restart Vista - log in as "Peter" and if everythings work just as normal, you can delete the old Admin User and the folders belonging to. -- BirgerH "Ronnie Vernon MVP" wrote: Quote: > Peter > > What is the name of the account you are logged on with? > > Open Control Panel / User Accounts. | | Re: User Account Yeah i'm having problems too. Bought my comp as new about a year ago with n problems. It started slowing down and was advised i tcould be the ram etc so they sent me more and it did nothing then it just started doing what the hell it wanted ie not shutting down if it didnt want to, taking forever starting up, programs shutting down etc.. So i though i would do a system restore which i did and it seemed to solve the problems for a while. Then things started playing up again and and it wouldnt load up at all so with a lot of messing about i managed to get into safe mode from the the boot screen and restored and agian for a few weeks it was ok.. Then a few weeks ago it just packed in all together and now it takes a while to boot and then just goes to the blue screen saying STOP: 0X000000ED (0X851313B8, 0XC000000, 0X00000000, 0X00000000). i have ordered recovery disks which have taken weeks to come and should be here soon but i had a lot on the computer ll it does is restart when i get to the blue screen and takes me back through it all.. It will not go anto any safe mode recovery manager or anything and the error im getting now before going to the blue screen is that there may have been hardware or software installed and its just a constant circle i have come close to smashing the thing to bits in a rage and compaq have been no help whatsoever as they say i have stepped outside my warrenty even though i reported the initial problem before it was up to thema nd it seems as though since i tried it the problem has occured i really am close to my limit with it all now oh yeah before all this i went to do another system restore and it said that my hardrive was corrupted so it couldnt so i took the tower in and had all the hardware tested and everything was apparently working fine PLZ help as i dont know if the recovery disks turn up that they will do anything anyway -- DeadlyMayhem Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com |
