how to unlock the author of a program?

Annoyed by continuous updating requests by Adobe Flash Player I blocked the
author.
Since that time I can't see any flash movie and I can't browse into flash
based sites.
I unistalled flash and tried to install it again....no way: a windows
advice suggests me to contact the administrator. But the administrator is me,
and I log into the computer as administrator. No help in the windows
knowledge.
How can I unblock (or unlock) Adobe on my computer?

I'm going to assume that you are using Internet Explorer here (let me know if
you're using something else, like Firefox).

Try clicking on the "Tools" button near the upper-right corner of Internet
Explorer. Select "Manage Add-ons..." then "Enable or Disable..."

At the top, there is a dropdown box -- make sure that "Add-ons that have
been used by Internet Explorer" is selected. Now the list of items should
show a list of plugins. "Shockwave Flash Object" is, I think, the name of
Adobe's flash plugin. Select it, and then down below, make sure "Enable" is
selected. Click OK and try it out.

Yes, I'm using internet explorer. Anyway I've already checked everywere in
I.E. tools. Macromedia does'nt appear, probably because I uninstalled it.
I tried also to check certificates... nothing.
Nothing in the folder Macromed, in win32. It's empty.
I think the problem could be solved deleting a key from the register, but
which one?
And, if I delete all the keys where Macromedia is showed? Do I make a
disaster?

Ok, I'm a little confused. Is Adobe Flash player installed right now?
(Adobe bought Macromedia, so they changed the name... ). If it's not (or if
you're unsure), install it from

http://www.adobe.com/go/EN_US-H-GET-FLASH

Once it's installed, try following the instructions from my previous post.

If you get any error messages during installation, please copy them here.

No, it's not installed right now because I uninstalled it trying to solve the
problem.
But now, when I try to install it again, I receive the error advise: the
author is blocked contact the administrator blah blah
As the name: I know it's the same company, but not for windows probably,
because it still calls flash "macromed"

Thanks for your response. It sounds like you selected "Never install
software from 'Adobe Systems Incorporated' " one time, and now you want to
undo that option.

To undo that option, try these steps:

1. Open the Start menu and type mmc.exe into the search box.
2. Press Enter to run mmc.exe. Agree to the UAC elevation prompt.
3. In the MMC window, click the menu File, "Add/Remove Snapin..."
4. On the left side, select "Certificates", and click the "Add >" button.
5. In the window that pops up, make sure "My use account" is selected and
click "Finish".
6. Click OK on the "Add or Remove..." window.
7. In the tree on the left side, expand "Certificates - Current User",
expand "Untrusted Certificates", and select "Certificates" under that.
8. You should see a few entries on the right side. Two will say "Microsoft
Corporation / VeriSign / Fradulent". If you have an entry for "Adobe Systems
Incorporated", select it, right-click on it, and say "Delete". (Agree to the
warning that pops up).
9. Go to Adobe's website and install flash player as you normally would:

http://www.adobe.com/go/EN_US-H-GET-FLASH

10. When you get to the second page, click on the yellow Information Bar
that says "This website wants to install the following add-on:...". On the
menu that appears, click "Install ActiveX control". Agree to the UAC
elevation. You should see the option to install Flash again.

If the computer gives you any error messages during these steps, please post
them here.

Yes exactly!
Probably I though it was easy to restore adobe at the end of navigation. But
it was not.

I followed your kind suggestions, but I stopped at the point 7. Ther's
nothing to expand in the left side. The folders don't show the plus sign.
So, in the add or remove snap-in window I can see, in the right side, just
the main console directory and certificates - corrent user.
What can I do?
And sorry if I'm wrong in naming the things. I'm Italian so my computer runs
Vista in Italian. But I did'nt get any usefull help from the Italian forum...
you seem to be the first one understanding my situation.
One more stupid question: restoring the system to some past point could
solve the problem? Are my files including mails safe? Obviously windows
update goes back...

Maurizio,
It sounds like you didn't set up the Certificates snap-in correctly. Look at
step 5, which option did you select when you added the snap-in?

Next, what happens if you double-click "certificates - current user?"

System restore might work, but you would have to select a restore point from
before the day you decided to block Adobe, and you would lose many, if not
all, system changes made since that date. That means you may have to
reinstall or reconfigure software.

Maurizio, if you are having trouble seeing certificates inside the "Current
User" certificates folder, I don't know what is going on, and can't give any
more specific advice. As Kurt suggested, you might want to give it one more
shot, just in case the computer was in a bad mood
