Cannot Manage Accounts

Hi - I added a new user profile for my son last week. Yesterday, when I
tried going back and making his ID an administrator, I could no longer see
the ID in the manage accounts box. I can only see the ID in parental
controls. Also, I cannot create a new ID and when I try to enable User
Account Control (UAC), it doesn't remain on. I tried to do a system restore
to a point created last week but that didn't work. Has anyone encountered
this issue? Could this be a Vista bug? I have Vista Home Premium.

Thanks,
Shelly

RE: Cannot Manage Accounts

It sounds like you are experiencing several strange errors. You may be able
to get more information if you look in the Windows Event Log. Open the Start
menu, type in "Event viewer", and press Enter. See if there are any error
messages logged at about the time that you tried to change the user account
settings.

Re: Cannot Manage Accounts

I honestly don't know what I'm looking at in the log. What exactly am I
looking for?

Re: Cannot Manage Accounts

The log will sort out events by how bad they are. If you give it a few
seconds to think, it will show a summary view of all the "Critical", "Error",
"Warning", and "Information" level events. You can expand the summaries to
see each event, and look for something that happened at the same time as when
you tried to enable UAC.
