Not able to start services - "Access denied"

Hi,
I'm running Vista Home Premium on on Toshiba Satelie U300-13V.

Network Diagnostics was working fine until recently, but now when I try and
run it I get the "Network Diagnostics cannot run because the Diagnostics
Policy Service is not running."

When I open Service Control Manager and try to start the service manually, I
get the message "Windows could not start the Diagnostic Policy Service
service on Local Computer. Error 5: Access denied."

I am the only user on the computer, and my account is an administator account.

Any suggestions as to how I can start the DPS?

Thanks

Hello Ecleaver,

Open Service Control Manager and clic twice on the service DPS, mitre
Connexion. This account local service must be activated with password...
(and not local system account).

Hope it will help you.

Best regards,

Re: Not able to start services - "Access denied"

Hi, thanks for your advice.

I've tried opening Services (is this the same as Service Control Manager?)
and opening the DPS settings. It is set to Local Service with a password. I'm
not sure what mitre connection is though. Setting it like this hasn't made
any difference to the problem.

Any other suggestions appreciated!

Thank you.

Re: Not able to start services - "Access denied"

I have had a similar message when trying to stop SQL Server Service Manager (2000); there is a work around that I found in google. However, this was on a customer's machine & I think they were using Home Premium; when I got back to the office and tried the same under our Vista (Business) it worked OK. Why is there such a difference??
