Vista is different from previous versions of windows. The only way the
built-in administrator account will show up in safe mode is if there are no
other admin accounts on the system.

Hi, Gunnar. Please try the link below. The tutorial from Brink may be able to help you. Please reply if it works for you or not. Thank you.
Reset User Account Password
Help! I have the same problem as Gunnar, do not have a clue what the admin password is and can't do much of anything without it. Brink's tutorial does not help because I have to okay those steps with the password, which I don't have. I cannot log on in safe mode without admin password to okay it. Does Vista have a set admin password? I have tried leaving it blank, tried "blank", "password", "administrator", etc. and none of those work. Is there any free way to recover the password?
Thank-you for any help anyone can provide with this problem.
Hello Gunnar and hcokrn,
I'm giving you a link in which you can ONLY use METHOD THREE, because you lost the admin account and there is no other admin account available. READ the note and warning under method 3 First before you proceed.
Reset User Account Password
Would appreciate if you inform me of your result. Good luck.
t-4-2,
Appreciate your help, but my son tells me we can't do this as it requires a floppy disc or CD burner (we have CD-ROM) and use a bus port (?) to save files on. There were no directions telling if we could save the file on that or not. This is all way over my head, obviously, can we use this method to save the file, and if so, do we follow the floppy disc or CD instructions? Thanks!
Hello hcokrn,
Forgive me, as it turns out, it's a little over my head too. As I have not done it personally, I'm reluctant to tell you what to do. If I gave you the wrong instructions, it could be devastating to your computer. I have to leave it to more experienced people. Hope you can understand. Good luck.

Shawn,
Yes, I could probably get my brother to do that for me. But, to be sure before I call him, could you please clarify what you mean by "boot CD/DVD"? Again, I am probably the least technical person you will ever deal with. I just figured out earlier that OS is operating system, lol. Everytime I think I am getting this computer thing down, a kink shows up and throws me off again.
Next question, if by boot CD you mean the CD for retreiving the password, doesn't that have to come from my computer to retreive it's password? If by boot CD you mean reinstalling Windows, would I then lose everything currently on my computer that I haven't saved on the little "bus port" thingy? If that's the case, it's not a problem, there's just a few files I would have to save or print first, so I just need to know.
And mostly, thank-you all sooo much for your help. Finding you and this forum was truly a Godsend as I have learned so much in the last 48 hours and now know where to look for answers instead of trying to fix them myself. (Which is probably why I am in this mess to begin with)
