Getting error Message when trying to install software

I hope I am posting this to the correct area.

A friend of mine has an Acer laptop with Vista Basic 32 bit.
We are both machine embroiderers that use various embroidery software. In
trying to install Embird, which like I said is embroidery software, she
continues to get the following error message:
*********
Warning
Can't write to Windows Registry!
Key: HKEY_Classes_Root\.psd
If you are running Windows, NT/2000/XP/Vista,
please log on as administrator.
**********
She is the admininstrator and she is also the only one using that computer.
We have tried having Admininstrative Controls on and we have also tried right
clicking on the install file and clicking 'run as administrator', but still
get the error.

Please keep in mind, that I am an XP user, so what I know about Vista is
just things I've read. She is a beginner. So we are like the blind leading
the blind. LOL

Any help you can give me in trying to resolve this would be appreciated.
Please don't talk techy.

Thanks so much,

Re: Getting error Message when trying to install software

Where did the file come from? A disc or a download?

If a download, delete the file and redownload it as it might be corrupt.

Re: Getting error Message when trying to install software

It was a download, but we have done this numerous times. Each time we try to
install, we download a fresh copy.

Re: Getting error Message when trying to install software

Has anyone considered that this might be a problem with Embird's software and they should be contacted?

Re: Getting error Message when trying to install software

I also have purchased Embird and have had nothing but trouble with it and vista windows. Finally after much ado.. I ran the compatibilty and got it downloaded, I have tried so many things I can't remember. I also downloaded it on my old computer with XP and it works fine so I am pretty sure it is a Vista problem. I contacted the Embird Team Lead Dusan Balara and he sent some generic answers that did not apply to me. I did get the program downloaded and it works EXCEPT for one part of it.. The icons do not show in my documents file where I save my embroidery designs. This is very annoying because I purchased the iconizer plug -in as well, and a window keeps coming up that it can't write to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT for some reason.. Dusan the embird lead told me what to do about that.. go into registry and the HKEY tree structure and delete a key that reads "persistent handler". There is no such key in that tree structure on my computer. So here I sit with no program with will work on my laptop the way it should and I am not sure of whose problem it is.. Embird or Vista. IS there anyone out there that has an idea. thanks.. greatly appreciated .

Re: Getting error Message when trying to install software

Why would you assume it's a Vista problem? It sounds to me like these folks
have Windows XP compatibility down pat and have not bothered to update their
product for use in Vista. They need to fix their product so it works
properly in Vista, or tell you it won't work in Vista.
