Vista - Activation locked?

Have new computer and checking system see that I have only 18 days to
acivate. Press the appropriate 'activate now' but no response. Next to the
shield there is a key which I presume indicates that the activation is
locked. Any ideas fordealing with this problem. Vista home premium edition

The shield is for the Windows Security Alert, more than likely, telling you
that an AV product or anti-malware product isn't configured properly.

As for not being able to activate, does it lock up the whole computer, or
just the activation. Sometimes, it can take ~10-15 seconds to respond. If
you've waited longer than that, it may be another application that was
loaded that causes it to lock up...
