| 32bit | Cant Find My Product Key! Howdy, I bought a new Windows vista standard edition. I took it into a computer store to get it upgraded to vista ultimate. I got it back with vsita ultimate installed and working fine. I tried to check what my product key was so i could write it down and some how i deactivated my vista, now it says that the copy i have is not genuine. The product key on the back of my laptop doesnt work and the store doesnt have to key either. Is there anyway i can get the Product key straight out of the system? and if there is how do i go about making windows genuine? |

You then took it to a shop to have it upgraded to Ultimate? They gave you back the PC and took your money - BUT did they give you the DVD for the Ultimate Upgrade ? or at very least the Certificate of Authenticity and the Product Key., If they did not provide you with this then they have not legally upgraded your PC. Unless they are carrying out anytime upgrades on your behalf - but again they must provide you with the product key. Was this some back street store that did this for a lot less than a real upgrade that you could have purchased yourself ? If so they you may have gotten what you paid for, in terms of legitimacy, service and care. Go back to them and demand The original media DVD (or an explanation of just what they used) The certificate of authenticity The product key You are entitled to (or at least a combination of) the above. -- Mike Brannigan |

What you have here is a back street shop just using one of their licenses to do you machine and handing it back - this is not what a professional upgrade should do. They must provide you with media, product key and certificate of authenticity. As without these you do not even have a legitimate license. Ask yourself this - what do I have that proves I have a license for Windows Vista Ultimate? Currently nothing. You need to have at the very least a certificate of authenticity and a product key (the COA is usually on the media package or may be on a piece of paper) - see http://www.microsoft.com/resources/h...displaylang=en Stop worrying about what you did and get the shop to prove that you have a genuine Windows Upgrade by providing you with what they must. Otherwise there is a serous risk that you are paying for effectively pirated software - as you have no proof to the license you are claiming and the shop is not providing you with the evidence you require, -- Mike Brannigan |
