Hoping someone has the knowledge to get me out of this situation...

I was trying to find and change the main computer / account name, you know, the one that comes up if you track changes in a MS Word doc for example.

So in UAC, I've clicked Change Your Account Name and entered the new name. Clearly I'm not technical, but I thought that was a simple change and my desktop login prompt reflects the new name. Now I have lost access to any other UAC controls, my C:\ files are still there but so is the unwanted name under Users and no sign of the new name. When I click again on Change Your Account Name, I receive the error "no mapping between account names and security ids was done".

I've now (a) found this forum and (b) read this post:
User Account Name

...which just suggests to me I've really created a problem for myself.

I'm running (struggling with) Vista Business 32 bit.

Can anyone step me through how to get my original profile back? After that, I'll follow the instructions of the post above!

Hi all,

I pulled in some offline help also and is all resolved.

For anyone else experiencing this end-user issue, reverting the name from within Computer Management rather than control panel seems to have been the key.
