User Profile not loaded correctly

Hi,

I have an unusual problem for which I cannot find much help online.

I have a 250GB HDD with two partitions: one for WinXP and the other for
Vista. I installed Vista after XP, and I was able to dual-boot the two OSes
normally.

I then decided to increase the free space on the Vista partition, and to do
that I would have to take free space from the XP partition. I used Partition
Magic 8 to achieve this. So basically PartitionMagic resized the XP partition
to a smaller size, moved the Vista partition to the left, and increased its
space (visually, the XP partition is on the left of the Vista one).

After that, Vista wouldn't boot because of a missing or corrupt winload.exe.
I had to make a small adjustment in the boot manager using bcdedit so Vista
would boot again.

Now Vista boots normally, but when I login to my user account, I always get
a "Preparing your desktop..." message for one or two minutes, and finally it
loads to the desktop. Then at the lower right corner of the screen a balloon
pops up saying that my "user profile was not loaded correctly", and it is
using a "temporary profile" instead.

This happens with every user account, and I can't perform
administrator-related tasks while in this "temporary profile".

I really appreciate your help.

I really need help on this and I can't fint anyone with the same problem as me.

I don't know what has been modified since I resized my partitions, but I do
know that ic caused the problem I have explained above. Just like that.

The reason I'm not contacting someone directly is because I still have my XP
partition so I am using it as my main environment. Even so, I had that Vista
partition prepared for my every-day life, and I would like to know if there
is a resolution to this problem without having to format the partition.

I repeat, my problem is that every user account in Vista cannot load the
user profile. It displays a message saying this exact text: "Your user
profile was not loaded correctly".

If anyone can (try to) help me I'd really appreciate it. I can enter any
Vista account and try to troubleshoot the problem following some of your
indications, but I have the limitation of being in a "Temporary Profile".

If I can't get help here in some days I'll just have to format the
partition, and the problem will not be able to be investigated (so it could
help other people, I guess).

Hi,

I just encountered the same problem. I started Vista in "Safe mode with
Network" and now I can logon with the old account. Hope this works for you.

Try starting Vista in Safe mode.

Thanks but your suggeston didn't work for me. I had (obviously) already
started Vista in the safe mode before, so I could try to enter with the
hidden Administrator account, but unfortunately it had the same problem as
all the other accounts.

I even managed to create a new account through the MMC > Local Users and
Groups Snap-in, but it was just like the other accounts.

By the way, like I said before, after I resized the Vista partition, I got
the 'missing or corrupt winload.exe' and the adjustment I made was set the
'device' and 'osdevice' properties (with bcdedit) to 'partition=F:', since
these properties got deleted by themselves after the resizing. Then Vista
loaded properly. Then I had the problem with the accounts.

I have also tried the 'Last known good settings' option in the safe mode
menu, and it didn't make any difference too.


PS: The "Your User Profile was not loaded correctly!" message balloon also
said 'view the event log for more details or contact the administrator'. I
thought this could give me any hint on the problem, but I cannot access the
event log (in the temporary profile). Can there be any other way I can view
the event log?

PS 2: I also think this may have something to do with permissions. I
remember the first time I logon in my account after the partition was
resized, I got an error messagebox containing rundll32 in its title, and its
text had something about checking the permissions or something like that.

Hi,

No I still haven't. After all this time, I still haven't removed Vista from
the HDD, but that's because I rather leave it there than remove it right now,
could some solution be posted in the meantime.

I'm now using XP regularly, but when I need the extra HDD space of the
partition Vista is in, I'll simply remove it. Until then, if any solution is
posted, then great, I can use my Vista partition again, but if it isn't,
well, bad luck, I can just remove it anyway, or even install the rtm version.

Ok no problems, I have two deploy for Feb some Vista worksation in a domain,
so I have to found a solution.....

I will still try to found a solution, If I found one I will post my solution

I solve it!

In fact it's a network problem!

I have notice also during my quest for a solution, that some software have
slow access network and sometimes depend on where I am connected (home, work,
or external) the speed is correct.

In Windows Vista, the TCPIP Stack has been rewritten and MS have integrated
a new functionality for auto adjustment of the RWIN MTU. In fact by default
the autotuninglevel is set to Normal and Windows try to a found the best
settings. Actually behind some routers, Windows bad negotiate and the result
is that the network is slow.

The command to disable the autotuninglevel is:

- Click start, All Programs
- Accessories
- Right-click Command Prompt
- Click Run As Administrator
- Type the following: netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
- Press enter
- Restart your computer (not really necessary)

In fact for my Profile problem was that Windows was in slow bandwidth and of
course as the old Windows, by default it not download the profile but just
create a temp folder.
