No, you can't have it both ways. When the computer "automatically goes to
the icons" it's already logged in with whatever account is set up as the
default. Once the computer is logged in you must log out or switch users to
access another account. There's no way to make Windows do otherwise.

Hmm... when I say icons I mean like this:

... and it automatically goes to this screen so its not logged on like you said. So what I want to be able to do is press cntrl+alt+del at the screen in the pic above to get to this screen:

Is it possible? Or is it still impossible? p.s. Sorry I forgot to quote.

Details ALWAYS help. That's a bit different, then. There are any number of
ways to set an account to be automatically logged on, my personal favorite
from the Windows XP days on is the Registry edit method:
