| Guest | Removed Functionality - Change a password for a domain account from a workgroup machine. Under Windows XP you could change a password for an account in a domain even though your machine was in a workgroup via the Control Panel ... User Accounts (pick an account) ... Manage Network Passwords ... select a stored connection .. Properties; and on the dialog box is a Change button which allows you to change a Domain password without being a member of that domain. You are just required to enter the old and new passwords. This button "Change" has been removed from Vista. Has the functionality been moved elsewhere. This is required to allow access to resources in untrusted domains and still be able to reset the account you are using password. -- Mike Brannigan |

| Guest | RE: Removed Functionality - Change a password for a domain account fro Hi Mike, Glad to see that someone other than me cares about the loss of this functionality! Have you also noted that network passwords no longer accepts the "DOMAIN\*" syntax which conveniently allowed you to wildcard all server passwords in a given domain? In Vista, you have to enter each one separately (or use *.domain.com and then use the FQDN for each reference of a server name). When you need to change the password, you have to do it elsewhere and then change EACH of your network password entries that uses it! The real killer is the subtle line "... to change the password, you have to do it elsewhere ..." Other then terminal serving to some other PC there does not appear to be a way to change a password on a Doman from a workgroup machine now ! this is actually an issue for me. -- Mike Brannigan "Stuart [MVP]" <StuartMVP@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:57BC06AD-1066-4D47-8E25-35C2EBC52D33@microsoft.com... > Hi Mike, > > Glad to see that someone other than me cares about the loss of this > functionality! > > Have you also noted that network passwords no longer accepts the > "DOMAIN\*" > syntax which conveniently allowed you to wildcard all server > passwords in a > given domain? > > In Vista, you have to enter each one separately (or use *.domain.com > and > then use the FQDN for each reference of a server name). | Guest | Re: Removed Functionality - Change a password for a domain account There is an option that's labeled "Change a password" on the Vista Security screen (CTRL/ALT/DEL) but alas it wouldn't let me change any password outside of the domain the machine was currently a member of.
