Vista - Interative Login

Will Vista allow you to use the classic login with Ctrl + Alt+ Delete?

Sort of. It won't present the old-style box, but it will show you the logon
screen with a message telling you to use <Ctrl>-<Alt>-<Del> to log in.

Open gpedit.msc and navigate to Local Computer Policy | Computer
Configuration | Windows Setings | Security Settings | Local Policies |
Security Options. Look in the right-hand pane for "Interactive Logon: Do not
require ctrl+alt+del". You want to DISABLE that policy. Then Ctrl+Alt+Del
will be required.

Enabling this policy requires you to disable Fast User Switching in WinXP,
but not in Vista.

Are you logging on to a domain, or just logging on to the local machine?

I should have added in my original note in this thread that I have always
used the Ctrl-Alt-Del policy in conjunction with the policy which prohibits
the logon prompt from showing the previously logged on user. But these
policies behave a little differently in Vista than they do in WinXP and
Win2000.

It "works" when I remove my machine from the domain and logon locally. If I
rejoin the domain and either logon to the network or logon locally, it does
not work as I "expected". Maybe the old drop down box is gone for good. I did
notice that if I choose switch user then it lists my domain there. I'm trying
to test it b/c I have clients who have a drop down list of 10 + domains and
want to know what behavior to expect if they use Vista.

I believe the dropdown box on the logon interface is, indeed, gone for good.
Microsoft is supposed to have made this choice for purposes of performance.
(We've all seen the occasion where clicking on the dropdown to select a
domain or the local machine results in a really long wait.)

And, yeah, there's a lot of stuff in Vista that doesn't work "as expected",
but I'm trying to learn.
