Vista Tutorial - Administrator Permissions

Although I am logged on as an administrator I cannot get full control of
drive c:

Log in in safe mode as the administrator
Create a new user account (With admin priviliges)

This shold work OK

Are you refering to the warning thats says:

"You don't currently have permission to access this folder.

Click continue to get access to this folder."

On click:

"You have been denied permision to access this folder.

To gain access to this folder you will need to use the security tab."

And then, while in security tab you can't actually apply any chnages?

Or, are you refering to UAC, which can be turned off?

Hello

no dont think its the uac thing. When i go to alter the permissions on the
security tab its all greyed out and i cant alter any of the permissions.

I tried adding another user with admin rights but that made no difference.
Also couldnt add another user while in safe mode as suggested

How do you turn off "UAC"? Is it in the local security policy?

not sure how to turn off uac looked in local security policy didnt seem to be
an option . the problem i have is that if i try and rename a file in anything
but the users folder. I get prompted to supply administrator credentials,
which i do and it initially seems to accept them. Then i get "There is
security controlling access to the file you do not have sufficient
credentials " and so on

Control Panel | User Accounts (in classic menu) | Change Security to turn off
UAC

But I have it turned off and am having similar issues in that i am an admin,
but am having security permissions issues.
BUT i just got vista and am working on it :-)

Yes, there are a couple settings in Local Security Policy to turn off UAC.
Check the 2nd and 3rd items in the list under "User Account Control" and
change them to "No Prompt".

Check the rights of user "everybody". In some folders this user has not
the right to list the content. Enable that "everybody" can list the
folder content - then also "administrator" can see the content.
