| | photo gallery stopped from finding pics in Hi my photo gallery doesn't see pics in my Vista pictures program. When I go to start menu I hit pictures and they are there but I can't get them into my photo programs like Picasa and MG. It says that folder is a system folder or hidden and to MOVE my pictures into the pictures folder. thanks. |

Photo Gallery seems to only be picking up the images in \Users\Public\Public Pictures. I notice that my user directory (\Users\[myID]) is hidden, which is exactly what Windows Photo Gallery is complaining about. But I never made my home directory hidden, at least not in any intentional fashion. As with MJ, if I open Pictures under the start menu all my pictures are there. Interestingly, if I drag and drop a folder from Pictures onto Photo Gallery, it shows the copy process...from \Users\[myID]\Pictures to \Users\[myID]\Pictures. Helpful... :-) |

MJ, another follow up to this. I think I figured out where my problem was coming from. After installing Windows Vista initially, I used Windows Easy Transfer to move my documents and pictures over from my old (Windows XP) machine. I believe that this transfer process left my \Users\[myID]\Pictures directory as both Read Only and Hidden. When I checked the folder properties initially, \Pictures was showing the "some files/folders are read only" partially selected check box. The Hidden check box was checked, but greyed out- I was unable to change it. I deselected the "Hidden" check box, and when prompted chose "Apply changes to this folder only" Once I did that, the "Hidden" property was no longer greyed out and I was able to de-select it- I applied that change to all sub-folders. After completing the above steps, I was able to re-launch Windows Photo Gallery and successfully "Add folder to Gallery". |
