Basic admin question.

One computer, one user situation.

Is it safe to say that in Vista, it would be the best scenario to
create a user account, resulting in just admin and that user account,
then give that user account full admin, then just use that user
account? If I understand, using a user acct with admin permission is
not the same as using the plain #1 admin account, and the scenario
above would still require admin permission for progs needing to do
admin things?
I have read that it is NOT advisable to use just the admin account as a
regular-use account. Is this the ideal, most secure away, avoiding
running admin acct as the only user? Thanks!

Re: Basic admin question.

Hello,

You should never use "the" built-in Administrator account in Windows Vista.

Administrator accounts in Vista (except for the built-in administrator
account) run in approval mode, which means programs that do not request
permission from the user do not run with admin privileges. In effect, you
get the benefit of running as a standard user when logged in as an
administrator.

If you wish, you can create a standard user account and use it day-to-day;
if you attempt to run a program that requires administrator privileges from
a standard user account, it will request your administrative user account
and password in order to proceed.
