Administrator Account and password UAC alert

I upgrade from XP MCE to Vista premium and when i installed it I'm only the
administrator account. After installing Vista premium i put password on
administrator account, is it normal for the UAC alert to not show the
password in Administrator account? I thought that once i put administrator a
password it would also give me UAC alert with password credential everytime.

Re: Administrator Account and password UAC alert

Hello,

This is normal behavior.

When you are running as an administrator, Windows will only ask for your
consent to perform an administrative action.

If you are a standard user, Windows will require you to log in with an
administrative account in order to proceed.

requiring a administrator password prompt. is doing this effective?

Re: Administrator Account and password UAC alert

Yes,

You can force administrators to authenticate in order to perform an
administrative action.

You will have to edit the registry to do this.

- Click start
- Type: regedit
- Press enter
- In the left, browse to the following location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

- In the right, double-click ConsentPromptBehaviorAdmin
- Type: 1
- Press enter

Re: Administrator Account and password UAC alert

Yes,

Doing actions that require administrative privileges from a standard user
account will prompt for an administrator to log in to perform the task.

Re: Administrator Account and password UAC alert

I would recommend putting a password on it, but it's up to you.

Re: Administrator Account and password UAC alert

You can change UAC behaiviour in the Local Security policy (secpol.msc) in
the Security options as well, better than editing registry.
