| | Upgrading Vista in June 2007? Dear Mocrosoft or anyone who knows. I finally managed to put a new partition in my HD with a free tool in one of the PC magazines. This allowed me to install Vista on the laptop. It is GORGEOUS.....indeed i have no real wish to boo twith XP meantime, other than the fact that it will expire in just under a year. Cleverly Windows have a deal with eTrust to allow a similar 12 months of virus software as well sa the Windows Firewall. Is the windows firewall now strong enough? Questions: 1) Do we get the choice of upgrading the Vista beta by BUYING a new key at the end of the period? Or, do we have to clean install? This would mean loosing the settings? 2) What is the RC1 released in the Autumn? Thanks -- Cheers Any help or advice would be appreciated |

| | Re: Upgrading Vista in June 2007? You will not be able to upgrade the Beta version of Vista to the release version of Vista. You will have to uninstall the Beta version first. This means you will have to back up your data and also reinstall all your programs once the final version of Vista is installed. -- Kerry Brown MS-MVP Shell/User "Poopsie" <Poopsie@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:113F5893-741C-495F-BC94-0326A2D27988@microsoft.com... > Dear Mocrosoft or anyone who knows. | | Re: Upgrading Vista in June 2007? As a matter of course you ought to be storing your data on a different partition anyway in order to better protect it. This has the added advantage of making OS reinstalls a lot easier. ![]() "Kerry Brown" wrote: > You will not be able to upgrade the Beta version of Vista to the release > version of Vista. | | Re: Upgrading Vista in June 2007? I agree but when changing an OS it is sometimes better to backup and restore so that NTFS permissions and SIDs are set. Even if not doing the restore when reinstalling or changing an OS it is prudent to back everything up. -- Kerry Brown MS-MVP Shell/User "Ian M.
