Vista - Regedit Question

I have a simple question. I have been using Vista Ultimate for about 2
months now and yesterday had reason to edit the registry. When you do most
anything with the system, the UAC prompts you for Admin priviliges. I did my
regedit from my standard user account and still haven't received a prompt.
Is something awry?

All I had to do was remove a key that was created by a piece of software so
that I could reinstall the software. This was recommended by the publisher.

Can someone explain?

Where was the key located? You should have full control of HKCU but mainly
read access in other sections of the registry.

Hello,

The registry editor is set to use the most amount of privilege that is
assigned to your user account.

If you are logged in as an administrator, regedit will end up with full
admin privileges, and so it prompts for your consent.

If you are NOT an administrator, regedit will run with however much
privilege that is assigned to your user account. Since this does not equal
admin privilege, it does not require a prompt.

You can always right-click regedit and click run as administrator if you
want to elevate it to admin privileges from a standard user account.

There are many more system utilities that work like this, and this is why
you will experience less UAC prompts when logged in as a standard user.
