| Guest | How do I configure auto log on for XP? Hi, I am posting this in the Vista forums cause I couldn't find an XP forum. I have a machine on our local small business network that I am trying to set up as a dedicated print machine for CD labels. I set up an account on our domain that has minimal read only access to the shared section of our server. I want this print machine to automatically log in as this account so that various people in our office can use it to print labels, and can access graphics that we put on our server. We previously had this lable printer set up on a mac, and setting up auto log in as a particular account with low privlages is really easy to do on a mac. Unfortunately the printer driver is buggy on the mac, so I was wanting to shift it over to one of our old pcs. I don't want everyone to have to log on and create separate accounts with separate settings on this computer though. I just need one print account that auto logs in! I have been banging my head against the wall trying to enable this though. The only articles I have found online are these: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...ips/knox2.mspx This doesn't work as we need the machine on our domain so we can transfer images to it. The other article I found was this one: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/315231 This seems way to complicated. I don't think I should have to monkey with the registry to enable such a simple feature, but I tried it anyway. Unfortunately I couldn't get it to work because the key "Winlogon" doesn't seem to exist under the path "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\" (Why is there a WindowsNT directory in the registry of a WindowsXP machine anyway?) Could someone please help? Thanks, Matt |

| Guest | Re: How do I configure auto log on for XP? Matt, Go to http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/e...&lang=en&cr=US and use the correct XP group. (as an aside 315231 is the correct article and no there are not typos where it uses WindowsNT registry keys as XP is actually just Windows NT version 5.1 at kernel level) -- Mike Brannigan "Matt" <Matt@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:E88B7EA6-FBF2-4985-832A-E4B9B66BE74E@microsoft.com... > Hi, > > I am posting this in the Vista forums cause I couldn't find an XP forum. > > I have a machine on our local small business network that I am trying to > set > up as a dedicated print machine for CD labels. | Guest | Re: How do I configure auto log on for XP? Hi Mike, Thanks for the link to the xp forum. I managed to find the answer I wanted on there. I had to download something called powertoys tweakui, and that did what I wanted it to do. Thanks for helping a poor mac person find his way in the big bad world of windows. ![]() -Matt "Mike Brannigan" wrote: > Matt, > > Go to > http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/e...&lang=en&cr=US > and use the correct XP group. > > (as an aside 315231 is the correct article and no there are not typos where > it uses WindowsNT registry keys as XP is actually just Windows NT version > 5.1 at kernel level) > -- > > Mike Brannigan > > > "Matt" <Matt@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:E88B7EA6-FBF2-4985-832A-E4B9B66BE74E@microsoft.com... > > Hi, > > > > I am posting this in the Vista forums cause I couldn't find an XP forum. > > > > I have a machine on our local small business network that I am trying to > > set > > up as a dedicated print machine for CD labels.
