Parental controls on guest account

Why can't I set up parental controls on the Windows Vista default guest
account?
I can only create a new account (the third one, since there is an
administrator account, default guest account, and this new one), and only on
this new account can I set up parental controls, (but not on the default
guest account).
Why is this?

Re: Parental controls on guest account

I share your frustration. I have been into the Guest account and found that no web content is available at all: EVERY web site I visit is blocked due to Parental Controls... and yet I am told that parental controls cannot be applied to the guest account. It's this sort of contradiction which will drive me towards a Mac when I next replace my computer! Can anyone help?

Hi RichieL,

You can only apply Parental Controls on a "Standard User account". The Guest user account is blocked by default and cannot be changed in Parental Controls.

For more on how to use Parental Controls, see:

No offense, Shawn... but that wasn't any help. If you read his post you would see that the GUEST account is telling him that he can't access internet because of parental controls on that account... yet you can't adjust parental controls on that account. I'm running into same problem and it is very frustrating...

Hi Tommr,

I'm not sure why Parental Controls would be blocking a Guest account that cannot be setup in Parental Controls to do so either. If you do not want or need to use Parental Controls, then stopping and disabling the "Parental Controls" service may stop it from blocking the Guest account.

Hope this helps,
Shawn
