Vista - Can't access user accts & some programs

I am unable to run a number of programs on vista - and I cannot access user
accounts. I am quite sure that it is related to my user account setup but
I'm not able to access it. When I try to run some programs/utilities (ie.
Blackberry Desktop Manager, Sidebar gadget addition, user accounts) it opens
a window briefly & then closes it right away. I have a laptop (not
networked) and only one user - myself - which I originally granted
administrator rights. Things worked fine for the first few months, but I am
constantly having trouble lately.

I'm assuming that the first thing I need to do is get into my user account
& make sure it's setup correctly - but I can't do that cuz when I try it
opens/closes a window & I get nowhere. I've tried right-clicking to run as
administrator but that option isn't there. I've tried to switch user - but
only my "theresa' account is an option (and it says I'm already logged in.

Please help!

One more thing...
I just found the link to disable uac (at
http://www.windowsnetworking.com/kba...ablingUAC.html).
when I follow the instructions & click on the tools tab, there is nothing on
the list.
